Love To Hate?
Bonded By Mutual DisdainBonded by Disdain
Are you part of a “tribe” that loves to hate? Think hard.
I believe that many groups of people are bonded by their mutual disdain for others. It feels good to vent and get validation, right? Easy example, politics. Do you hate the people on the other side? And how does that hate serve you? How does that hate serve the world? You know what I believe it does? I believe it enables you to dehumanize that other group. And there is nothing more dangerous than dehumanization.
Don’t get me wrong! I don’t AGREE with certain politicians, religious organizations, activists, etc., and I think it’s vital that we take a stand for what we believe. However, how is HATING going to move us forward in any positive direction whatsoever?!? It only deepens the divide and, as long as we are dehumanizing, opens the door to deplorable acts of cruelty. It’s easy to hate and be violent (verbally and physically) to someone who we don’t see as being (human) like us. But the fact is – WE ARE ALL HUMAN and have the same need for love and belonging, and I believe we are all inextricably connected by this.
What Connects You?
What’s the call to action? Think about your “tribes” and what connects you. Do your conversations reflect thoughts of being victims, fighters, or positive change makers? Then, ask yourself, how much progress have you all made in improving ANYTHING for the world? Are you spreading love or hate? Ironically, it seems so many groups are hating the haters. I guarantee no progress will come from that. Replace your judgment with CURIOSITY!!! Perhaps consider coming up with creative ways to connect with any opposing “tribes” so that you really can work together to make the world a better place.
