WE FIRST MUST LEARN TO LEAD OURSELVES

What Does Brave Leadership Looks Like?

Readiness and willingness to engage in difficult conversations, especially around accountability, diversity, inclusion, boundaries, and conflict.

Effective responses to emotions (your own and others’).

Awareness of and commitment to your values.

Resilience after setbacks.

TIME TO GET REAL

Ask Yourself

Are you avoiding difficult conversations because you are afraid of offending or hurting someone?

It if often be more hurtful not to have the conversation.

Are the people you lead afraid of making mistakes because they don’t want to upset you or set you off?

This fear limits their ability to problem-solve and innovate.

Are you struggling to respond compassionately to certain people around you?

If it’s not sincere, neither you nor they are feeling it.

How confident are you that when you experience a setback, you have the resources to get back on your feet again?

Having a resilience skillset is vital to growth and well-being.

ARMORED VS. DARING LEADERSHIP

What Is Fueling You?

Fear does not get in the way of brave leadership. Armor does.

Many leaders are armored up, trying to protect themselves from discomfort or emotional pain. They lead themselves and others from a place of fear, scarcity, or hurt. As a result, they are exhausted. (Armor is heavy!)

Although armor might keep them safe in life-threatening situations, it disconnects them from themselves and those they are trying to lead.

Fear doesn’t need to be conquered. Research consistently shows the greatest leaders feel afraid most of the time! Brave leaders lead with courage and compassion while experiencing fear. They report feeling alive, afraid, and inspired throughout most of their personal and professional lives.

WHY DARE TO LEAD?

What I expected to be a typical leadership development course turned into an eye-opening, inspirational regular work session that was the highlight of my week.

Cara Martin, COO, Optimized Thermal Systems

As an introvert, I was unsure about entering a virtual training setting. The structure of the workshop combined with the facilitation helped me give myself the permission to open up quickly with my colleagues while fully engaging with the materials.

Joshua Reid, VP of R&D, Kellogg Company

I highly recommend the Dare To Lead course, as one of the most effective development tools I have encountered. Katie perfectly balanced the course to be both rejuvenating and gently challenging  The course is not only inspiring but offers the knowledge, skills and self-awareness to be a more courageous leader in any arena. This experience definitely helped me navigate very challenging situations.

L.M., Business Consultant, Ellicott City, MD

The program was just what I needed at this point in my leadership. I was able to look at myself and see where the concepts of courage, vulnerability, shame showed up in me.

Theresa Leatherbury, President of Rachuba

The intensive was exactly what I needed to guide me as I navigate the challenges the pandemic has brought my organization. Having this in my toolbox makes every difficult decision or conversation less intimidating and has given me the confidence to stride boldly into the arena.

Jessamine Duvall, Executive Director, Girls on the Run

Katie created a safe, respectful and open environment for anyone to feel at ease… At the end of the course, I felt confident that I had some tools to face vulnerable situations and hopeful that I had a chance to reframe situations by reacting to them better. Can’t recommend the intensives highly enough to anyone who is at a turning point in their life and career and are open to personal growth.
